Graduation from an approved medical school and specific specialty training are required. Completion of the certifying examinations of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and licensing by the provincial or territorial licensing authority are required.

3 years of work as a general doctor before starting the Sport and Exercise Medicine training program. Satisfactory completion of the Part 1 entry exam. Satisfactory entry interview. At least 4 years of full time training in Sport and Exercise Medicine supervised by fully qualified Sport and Exercise Physicians.
